Exam questionKROK 1Medicine ยท 2008
It was proved that a molecule of immature mRNA (precursor mRNA) contained more triplets than amino acids found in the synthesized protein. The reason for that is that translation is normally preceded by:
Answer options
- Reparation
- Replication
- Processing
- Mutation
- Initiation
Correct answer
Processing
Explanation
Cells are governed by a cellular chain of commands. Thus DNA-RNA-PROTEINS. Transcription is the synthesis of RNA under the direction of DNA to produce mRNA. The translation is the actual synthesis of a polypeptide (protein) under the direction of mRNA. Usually, mRNAs are not ready to be translated immediately being transcribed from DNA. The immature mRNAs contain both INTRONS and EXONS and therefore need to undergo PROCESSING through a process called SPLICING before translation.
